Nate McMillan and the Indiana Pacers have gotten off to a solid 3-1 start in the Orlando NBA Bubble restart. On the season, the Pacers are 42-27 and are currently half a game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
While he has had a successful tenure as the head coach for the Pacers, it appears that there could be some hot seat action for McMillan.
According to Jeff Van Gundy on The Lowe Podcast, two people have come up to him in Orlando and stated that McMillan is “in trouble.”
Rumors have been swirling that Pacers’ star shooting guard Victor Oladipo is not a fan of McMillan. Some have even gone so far as to say that Oladipo is going to tell the Pacers to choose him or McMillan. If that is the case, it seems likely that Kevin Pritchard will side with his star player.
During the almost four years that McMillan has been the head coach of the Pacers, he has led the team to a lot of success. He has not coached the team to a losing record in that time period.
Despite the success he has had, many believe that the Pacers would be much better off with a different head coach. Names like Kenny Atkinson, Mark Jackson, and even Jason Kidd have been mentioned as better candidates for Indiana.
Expect to hear a lot more speculation about Nate McMillan’s future with the Pacers in the coming weeks and months.
If the Pacers don’t make a run in the playoffs, Pritchard might be forced to make a coaching change. That is something that most fans in Indiana would be very happy to see.
