While every sports league is shut down and waiting to get back on the court or field, the NBA is getting creative in their ability to ‘play’ games. Because of that some players are hitting the hardwood this weekend – virtually that is – including one Pacers player.
The NBA announced earlier this week that they would be putting together a players-only NBA 2k tournament which will start this weekend. A 16-player tournament will take place and will include Pacers’ forward Domantas Sabonis.
Domantas Sabonis is ranked as the nine seed and will take on Montrezl Harrell in the first round. The winner will take on either top-seeded Kevin Durant or 16-seed Derrick Jones Jr in the second-round.
It’s unknown when the Pacers’ big man will take on Harrell, or even how far in the tournament he will go, but it will be somewhat of a distraction with everything going on in the world.
The winner of the event will receive a $100,000 donation from 2K, the NBA and NBPA to give to a charity of their choice in support of ongoing coronavirus relief efforts.
Rounds one and two will be single elimination, with the semifinals and finals a best of three series. The first round will take place this weekend, starting on Friday, and run through the second week of April.
If you want to follow along, games will be televised on both ESPN and ESPN2.
