While the 2020 offseason is still in full swing, the Colts should already be looking ahead to next season’s free agency.
In this day and age, most ‘big name’ free agents will sign deals with their respective teams before free agency begins, but the Colts could see one player walk.
According to PFF, T.Y. Hilton is one of the top available free agents in 2021 and has an uncertain future in Indy.
Injuries and poor quarterback play limited Hilton over the second half of last season. His 501 receiving yards and 11.1 yards per reception were by far the lowest marks of his NFL career, but the expectation is that Hilton will bounce back next season healthy with Philip Rivers at quarterback. … He may be turning 31 years old this upcoming season, but Hilton still brings that dynamic playmaking ability to an offense.
With the Colts in a ‘win-now’ mindset this offseason, Hilton’s future with the organization has been a non-topic…until now.
Though Hilton could be on his way out, it is a bit surprising that the Colts have still yet to address the wide receiver position this offseason. Outside of Hilton’s 552 career receptions, the Colts’ remaining wideouts who played significant roles last year had a combined 114 receptions for their careers.
There is no question that Hilton lost a bit of his breakout ability last season, finishing with a career-low 501 receiving yards. However, with a possible bounce-back 2020 on the horizon, the eight-year vet could still have a lot left in the tank.
